You can earn 5X Ultimate Rewards points at grocery stores

A reader (and friend) emailed me that you can buy Vons and Albertsons gift cards at Staples.

I immediately drove to my closest Staples to pick up a few grocery store gift cards.  Earn 5X Ultimate Rewards points on grocery shopping?  Yes, please!

The Vons and Albertsons gift cards at Staples are slowly being rolled out to stores, similar to the Whole Foods gift cards (hat tip: Gary) that arrived this week.

I love Whole Foods but the nearest one to me is a 45 minute drive.  While Vons and Albertsons are 5 minutes away and my grocery dollars go a little further there than at Whole Foods.

The Vons and Albertsons cards come in $25 and $50 denominations.

You’ll earn 5X Ultimate Rewards points when you use your Chase Ink Bold or Chase Ink Plus card to purchase the gift cards.

But, you can’t buy them online.  They are in store only.  Not all stores are stocking grocery gift cards so you may want to call your local Staples first.

If you’re going to Staples on Black Friday, the gift cards racks will be temporarily located next to the cash registers.  Staples is hoping people will pick up a few gift cards while waiting in line.  Smart thinking!  Now if only they’d bring back Vanilla Reloads and let us use credit cards…

If you don’t have a Vons or Albertsons near you, grocery store gift cards make nice gifts.  Think teachers, seniors, college students, even newlyweds.

One of my favorite gifts that my husband and I received when we were married was a grocery store gift card.  It was the perfect gift!

With teenage boys we spend a lot on groceries.  I’m excited about earning 5X Ultimate Rewards points on my groceries!
