Phone ringing off the hook?  Text messages coming in rapid fire?

Maybe that’s because you can fly a friend for free for the rest of the year.

You can earn a Southwest Companion Pass after you fly three round-trip flights by May 17, 2015.

3 flights = a year’s worth of free flying

What’s the Catch?

1.  Southern Belle or Southern Gentleman

You have to be an Atlanta resident.

And the terms of the promotion specify that only certain Atlanta zip codes are eligible. However, they don’t list which zip codes qualify.

2.  You Can’t Go Home Again

You have to fly from the Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in Atlanta.  So all three round-trip flights have to start and end in Atlanta.

The Good Thing

You can jump start and earn your Southwest Companion Pass after only three round-trip flights from Atlanta.  And if you earn 110,000 Southwest points, your Southwest Companion Pass will be valid through December 31, 2016. Update: You now need 135,000 points to earn a Southwest Companion Pass.

How to Earn Southwest Points

You can earn 50,000 Southwest points in a few minutes.

All three Southwest cards, the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Premier Credit Card, Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card, and Southwest Rapid Rewards® Plus Credit Card are offering 50,000 points after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of opening your account.

You can apply for both a personal and a business card on the same day because a personal card is considered a different card product than a business card.

If it’s been 24 months since you received the sign-up bonus, you can apply for a second Southwest card.

Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is the best card to get started in the world of miles and points. It is the first card you should get to start traveling for free because the welcome offer is 60,000 points after spending $4,000 in the first three months.

My favorite perks about this card are earning 5X points on travel when booked through the Chase portal (2X if direct purchase), 3X points on dining, $50 yearly credit on hotels booked through the Chase portal, no foreign transaction fees, and transferring points to 13 airline and hotel partners like Hyatt, United, and Southwest.

Chase Freedom Unlimited®

The Chase Freedom Unlimited® is one of my favorite cards for earning cash back card and travel rewards. It offers a welcome offer of an additional 1.5% cash back on all your purchases up to $20,000 your first year.

My favorite perks about this card are earning 5% cash back on travel booked through the Chase Travel Portal, 3% cash back at drugstores and restaurants (including delivery and takeout), 1.5% cash back on all other purchases and no annual fee. When paired with cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve® Card or Ink Business Cash® Credit Card, you can use your points to travel for free.
