How to Go to the World Series for Free

Share with a friend

Unless you love baseball, the World Series probably isn’t too high on your bucket list. But there might be a little more excitement about the World Series now that the Chicago Cubs will be going to the World Series. The 108 year stretch has been too long for many die hard Cubbies fans. So if you’re looking to attend the momental game, keep reading to find out how to go to the World Series for free.

I love baseball. And thanks to my good friend, Laura, got to watch the San Diego Padres play the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field two years ago. Laura’s a die-hard Cubs fan and season ticket holder.

So I’m excited for her and the Cubs. And was inspired to put together this post.

How to Go to the World Series for Free

1.  World Series Tickets

Get free tickets to the World Series, Chicago Cubs vs Cleveland Indians by redeeming Starpoints. https://www.travelingwellforless.com

Use Starpoints to get free tickets to the World Series

World Series ticket prices are skyrocketing. Standing room only tickets at Wrigley are going for almost $800. But here’s how to get free tickets to the World Series.

Use your Starpoints through SPG Moments and bid on 1 of 6 packages for Games 3, 4, and 5 at Wrigley Field. Each package includes 2 tickets in a luxury suite and free food and drinks during the game.

The Game 4 package includes a meet and greet with former Chicago Cub outfielder, Andre Dawson. You can take photos, ask questions, and get his autograph.

Packages start at 235,500 points. But don’t wait too long. Because bidding ends on October 25, 2016.

Yep, it’s a lot of points to see a baseball game. Points that could be used to stay at hotels in the Maldives, Paris, Australia, or other places.

But there are times when being to frugal with your points will come back to bite you in the butt. If you’ve got the points and you want to go to the game, spend the points.

Pro-tip: He who dies with the most points, does not win. Don’t pass over a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity because someone else has placed an arbitrary value to your points.

Use your points when it makes you happy and brings you memories and experiences that will last a lifetime. (Okay, off my soapbox.)

2.  Flights

Fly to the World Series for free using airline miles. https://www.travelingwellforless.com

Fly to the World Series for free using airline miles

Get free flights by using your airline miles to fly to Cleveland and Chicago.

I bet you’re thinking only anytime awards (the highest amount) are available. Thankfully, there are actual saver awards available! So you could fly one-way for only 12,500 miles.

Pro-tip: Two people fly for the price of 1 if you have the Southwest Companion Pass.

3.  Hotels

Stay at Hyatt Regency Cleveland The Arcade for free during the World Series when you redeem hotel points. https://www.travelingwellforless.com

You can stay for free when you redeem hotel points.

If you plan on attending Games 1, 2, 6, or 7 at Progressive Field in Cleveland and want to use points for free stays, here are some of the hotels near the ballpark:

You can also stay further out and use public transportation to Progressive Field.

Attending Games 3, 4, or 5 at Wrigley Field? There aren’t a lot of points hotels as close to Wrigley Field but thanks to the CTA (Chicago Transit Authority), you can stay in the city, near the airport or in the suburbs, and take the train to Wrigley.

4.  Transportation

Ride Uber for free using credits or points. https://www.travelingwellforless.com

You can skip public transportation and take Uber for free:

  • Sign-up for a new Uber account using my Uber referral link and we both get a $20 Uber credit
  • Use Barclay Arrival Plus points (minimum $50 redemption. But you know it’ll be surge so you’ll probably hit $50.)
  • Redeem American Express Membership Rewards points to pay for your Uber

Conclusion

Getting to the World Series can be done on the cheap. Here’s the frugal guide on how to go to the World Series for free.

Free tickets to Games 3, 4, and 5 in a suite complete with food and beverages can be yours if you place a winning bid using Starpoints.

You can fly for free using airline miles. Award tickets to Cleveland and Chicago are available for only 12,500 miles one-way.

Or double down and get two tickets for the price of one when you use your Southwest Companion Pass.

Now that you’ve gotten free tickets and flights to the games, it’s time to get your free hotel room by redeeming hotel points at one of the many hotels near Progressive Field or within an easy train ride to Wrigley Field.

I’m excited for this year’s World Series. And can’t wait to watch the Chicago Cubs play the Cleveland Indians.

Who are you rooting for?
