Is American Airlines Reducing Executive Platinum Benefits?

On my US Airways flight from Philadelphia to Las Vegas at the beginning of the month, something unusual happened.

Will EXPs lose benefits after the merger is complete?

Instead of being offered a meal in coach (my upgrade did not clear) I was only offered an a la carte snack.

First world problems I know. But I’m not throwing a pity party, just merely stating a fact.

My choices were:

  • Fruit & nut mix
  • Hummus & pita chips
  • Pringles
  • Chex mix
  • M&M’s Almond Chocolates

(Excuse the poor quality photo.)

EXPs lose meals in coach benefit

As you can see from the photo, all American Airline Executive Platinum, Concierge Key, and US Airways Chairman’s Preferred members will get a snack when in coach. Whereas, we were getting a free meal plus a free drink.

You’ll still get a free drink but say goodbye to free food in coach.

I haven’t flown in coach on American this year yet, so I’m going to assume this is a system wide policy.

And because my flight was a US Airways flight yet, onboard all flight attendants referred to the flight as American Airlines, I’m hoping the loss of meals for American Airlines Executive Platinum members flying in coach is only a temporarily event.

I’m curious to know if anyone else has experienced the same? Were you only offered an a la carte snack instead of a meal when flying in coach?
