If you shopped at Staples between July 20, 2014 to September 16, 2014, your credit card information may be compromised.

Were You Affected by the Staples Data Breach? Traveling Well For Less

115 Staples stores hacked, is your store on the list?

The data security breach affected 115 of US Staples stores and possibly exposing almost 1.2 million Staples customers.

Because many of us shop at Staples using our Ink Bold and Ink Plus cards to get 5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points, you should check to see if the Staples store you normally shop at was affected.

If you’re like me and also shop at Staples when traveling, you should also check the list against your Ink Bold and Ink Plus statements.

Staples is offering free identity protection services to include credit monitoring, identity theft protection, and a free credit report through Experian, to all customers who shopped at any of the 115 stores.

If you have questions, you can call Staples toll-free at 1-866-274-4371 between the hours of 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. EST Monday to Friday, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

More information about Staples data breach can be found here.

Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is the best card to get started in the world of miles and points. It is the first card you should get to start traveling for free because the welcome offer is 60,000 points after spending $4,000 in the first three months.

My favorite perks about this card are earning 5X points on travel when booked through the Chase portal (2X if direct purchase), 3X points on dining, $50 yearly credit on hotels booked through the Chase portal, no foreign transaction fees, and transferring points to 13 airline and hotel partners like Hyatt, United, and Southwest.

Chase Freedom Unlimited®

The Chase Freedom Unlimited® is one of my favorite cards for earning cash back card and travel rewards. It offers a welcome offer of an additional 1.5% cash back on all your purchases up to $20,000 your first year.

My favorite perks about this card are earning 5% cash back on travel booked through the Chase Travel Portal, 3% cash back at drugstores and restaurants (including delivery and takeout), 1.5% cash back on all other purchases and no annual fee. When paired with cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve® Card or Ink Business Cash® Credit Card, you can use your points to travel for free.
