1,000 Southwest Points for Dining Out

Going out to eat? Here's how to get a quick 1,000 Southwest points. TravelingWellForLess.com

One meal can get you 1,000 Southwest points

You can get 1,000 Southwest points in a few minutes when you join the Rapid Rewards Dining program by June 12, 2016. Four quick steps:

  • Join Rapid Rewards Dining by June 12, 2016
  • Spend $25 or more at a participating restaurant within 30 days
  • Pay with registered credit or debit card
  • Complete 5 question online review within 30 days of meal

When you eat at participating restaurants you earn 3 Southwest point for every $1 you spend.

But remember to register a card that isn’t registered with another dining program. Because you can’t double dip dining programs.

So don’t enroll the same card that you used to get 5,000 United Miles and elite status.

How to Get 1,000 Southwest Points Fast

1.  Buy Gift Cards

Not planning on eating out soon? You can buy gift cards from Rapid Rewards restaurants to use later or give as gifts for graduation, Father’s Day, teacher’s, birthdays, etc.

2.  Use Other People’s Money

Pick up the tab when you go out with friends. Or even better, ask for the cash.

From my Extreme Mile and Point Collecting post, if someone is paying with cash, ask if you can put it on your credit card. You get the miles and don’t have to spend the money to get the bonus!

Summary of the Fine Print

  • Offer open to new Rapid Rewards Dining members without a dining profile
  • Profile has to be completed by June 12, 2016, at 11:59 pm Eastern Time
  • Spend $25 within 30 days of joining to get 1,000 Southwest points

Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is the best card to get started in the world of miles and points. It is the first card you should get to start traveling for free because the welcome offer is 60,000 points after spending $4,000 in the first three months.

My favorite perks about this card are earning 5X points on travel when booked through the Chase portal (2X if direct purchase), 3X points on dining, $50 yearly credit on hotels booked through the Chase portal, no foreign transaction fees, and transferring points to 13 airline and hotel partners like Hyatt, United, and Southwest.

Chase Freedom Unlimited®

The Chase Freedom Unlimited® is one of my favorite cards for earning cash back card and travel rewards. It offers a welcome offer of an additional 1.5% cash back on all your purchases up to $20,000 your first year.

My favorite perks about this card are earning 5% cash back on travel booked through the Chase Travel Portal, 3% cash back at drugstores and restaurants (including delivery and takeout), 1.5% cash back on all other purchases and no annual fee. When paired with cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve® Card or Ink Business Cash® Credit Card, you can use your points to travel for free.
