2 Easy Steps to a 20% Rebate on Redeemed Hyatt Points

1.  Register for the 20% rebate promotion before March 31, 2015
2.  Redeem Hyatt points between February 17, 2015 and July 31, 2015

When you redeem Hyatt points between February 17, 2015 and July 31, 2015 you can get 20% of your points back.

But you have to be a World of Hyatt credit card holder and register for the promotion here.  This may be a targeted promotion, but it doesn't hurt to register just in case you didn't get an email.

You'll receive the 20% rebate within 4 to 6 weeks after you redeem your Hyatt points.

With the 20 percent rebate, you'll pay less Hyatt points.  And the more Hyatt points you redeem, the more points you'll get back.

What Counts as a Hyatt Point Redemption?

You can redeem Hyatt points for a variety of things from free nights to car rentals.

But only some redemptions count for the 20% rebate promotion.  And Hyatt points transferred to airline partners like Southwest or redeemed for Avis car rental certificates do not qualify for the 20% rebate.

1.  Hotel Stays

When you cash in your Hyatt points for free nights at any Hyatt hotel worldwide through July 31, 2015, you can get a 20 percent rebate on the total amount of Hyatt points you've used.

With the 20% rebate you'll only pay 24,000 Hyatt points per night instead of 30,000 points at a Category 7 Hyatt hotel such as the Park Hyatt Paris Vendome.

2.  Points + Cash

And you'll get even bigger savings when you redeem Hyatt points for a Points + Cash stay!

For example, a Points + Cash stay at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa, a Category 5 Hyatt hotel, costs 10,000 Hyatt points and $125 a night.  But with the 20 percent rebate promotion, you save 2,000 points!

3.  Upgrades

You can use Hyatt points to upgrade to a Regency, Grand Club room, or Suite:

  • Regency or Grand Club room upgrade for 3,000 Hyatt points per night
  • Suite upgrade for 6,000 Hyatt points per night

4.  Food

You can also use Hyatt points to pay for your food purchases at participating Hyatts worldwide.

Here's what your Hyatt points will get you when used for dining:

  • $10 for 2,000 Hyatt points
  • $25 for 5,000 Hyatt points
  • $50 for 10,000 Hyatt points
  • $75 for 12,000 Hyatt points
  • $100 for 15,000 Hyatt points
  • $150 for 20,000 Hyatt points
  • $250 for 32,000 Hyatt points
  • $500 for 60,000 Hyatt points
  • $1,000 for 120,000 Hyatt points

But you'll pay 5 to 8 cents per points when you redeem your points for food.

I wouldn't recommend doing that unless you're short on cash and very heavy on Hyatt points.

Because you can buy 1,000 Hyatt points for 2.4 cents per point ($24 for 1,000 points).  So it makes more sense to pay for your food with cash instead of points.

5.  Spa

Hyatt points can be traded for spa treatments in the same ratio as food redemptions:

  • $10 for 2,000 Hyatt points
  • $25 for 5,000 Hyatt points
  • $50 for 10,000 Hyatt points
  • $75 for 12,000 Hyatt points
  • $100 for 15,000 Hyatt points
  • $150 for 20,000 Hyatt points
  • $250 for 32,000 Hyatt points
  • $500 for 60,000 Hyatt points
  • $1,000 for 120,000 Hyatt points

Generally not a good idea to use your Hyatt points for spa services.  But if you have Hyatt points that are going to expire and no plans or ways to get more Hyatt points before they expire, then it could be worth it.

Do Points Redeemed Before February 17, 2015 Count?

You will not get the 20% rebate if you cashed in Hyatt points before February 17, 2015 per the fine print.

So you may want to rebook your points or Points + Cash stays so that you can get the rebate.

Summary of the Fine Print

  • You have to be a Hyatt cardholder who was targeted
  • You have to register between February 17, 2015 and March 31, 2015
