IHG Rewards Club is offering a double point bonus when you buy IHG points by February 17, 2017.

You have to buy at least 5,000 IHG points to get the 100% bonus. The most points you can buy during this offer is 60,000.

Usually, you can buy IHG points for 1.15 cents to 1.35 cents per point. With this promotion, the price drops to 0.575 cents per point.

Buy 1,000 to 4,000 points: pay 1.35 cents per point and get 0 bonus
Buy 5,000 to 10,000 points: pay 0.675 cents per point and get a 100% bonus
Buy 11,000 to 23,000 points: pay 0.625 cents per point and get a 100% bonus
Buy 24,000 to 60,000 points: pay 0.575 cents per point and get a 100% bonus

Sounds like a bargain, right?

How to Buy IHG Points

1. Use the IHG buy points link.
2. Enter your information.
3. Choose how many points you want to buy.
4. Pay with your credit card.

Pro-tip: Buying IHG points don’t count as a travel purchase. So you won’t get extra points if you pay with a travel rewards card like the Chase Sapphire Preferred. Instead, you should use a card that you need to meet minimum spending on.

Should You Buy IHG Points?

IHG Rewards Club recently changed how many points you need to stay at many of their hotels. Some hotels like the InterContinental Sydney went from 55,000 points a night to 60,000 points a night. Whereas other hotels like the Holiday Inn London West is now only 25,000 points a night.

Should you buy IHG points? Maybe.

You shouldn’t buy points just because IHG is offering a 100% bonus. Or because you’re running low on points and need to bulk up your stash.

But in some situations buying points makes sense. You have to do the math to see if it’s worth it to buy IHG points.

If you stay in expensive hotels or during peak times, you could save a lot of money if you buy IHG points.

You could buy 30,000 points at 0.575 cents per point and get 60,000 points because of 100% bonus offer for $172.50. A savings of $200!

Buying 25,000 points during the 100% bonus sale gets you 50,000 points for $143.75. So you’d save $92.60 if you buy IHG points instead of paying cash.

You’d pay 20,000 points or $176.08 to stay at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Chaffee-Jacksonville West. With the 100% bonus offer, 10,000 points would cost $67.50. A savings of $108.58!
