Last Day to Transfer Hotel Points

Transferring hotel points is an easy way to earn the Southwest Companion Pass but that ends today, March 31, 2017, at 11:59 pm CST.

Southwest Companion Pass

With the Southwest Companion Pass, you can bring a companion for free. Your companion can fly with you for free for up to two years. The only cost is airport tax of $5.

You can get a Southwest Companion Pass after earning 110,000 Southwest points in a calendar year. Update: Now you need 135,000 points to earn a Companion Pass.

With 2 credit cards, one personal and one business, you can earn 104,000 Southwest points after you’ve met the minimum spending requirement.

You can transfer Choice hotels points or other hotel points to get the remaining 6,000 points. But that ends tonight.

40% Bonus on Choice Hotel Points

If you need Choice hotel points, you can get up to a 40% bonus when you buy Choice points by April 18, 2017.

The bonus amount depends on how many points purchased. You have to buy 5,000 points to get a bonus. If you want the 40% bonus you have to buy 40,000 or more points. The most Choice hotel points you can buy is 50,000.

Normally Choice points cost 1.1 cents per point, but with this offer, you only pay 0.79 cents per point.

How to Buy Choice Points

1.  Use the Choice buy points link.
2.  Enter your information.
3.  Choose how many points you want to buy.
4.  Pay with your credit card.

Pro-tip: Buying Choice hotel points don’t count as a travel purchase. So use a card that you have to meet minimum spending on like the SPG Amex.

Conclusion

Tonight is the last day to transfer hotel points and fly free for up to two years. Once the clock strikes 11:59 pm CST tonight, transferring hotel points won’t count towards the Southwest Companion Pass.

If you’re short on Southwest Companion qualifying points you can transfer hotel points like Choice hotel points.

Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is the best card to get started in the world of miles and points. It is the first card you should get to start traveling for free because the welcome offer is 60,000 points after spending $4,000 in the first three months.

My favorite perks about this card are earning 5X points on travel when booked through the Chase portal (2X if direct purchase), 3X points on dining, $50 yearly credit on hotels booked through the Chase portal, no foreign transaction fees, and transferring points to 13 airline and hotel partners like Hyatt, United, and Southwest.

Chase Freedom Unlimited®

The Chase Freedom Unlimited® is one of my favorite cards for earning cash back card and travel rewards. It offers a welcome offer of an additional 1.5% cash back on all your purchases up to $20,000 your first year.

My favorite perks about this card are earning 5% cash back on travel booked through the Chase Travel Portal, 3% cash back at drugstores and restaurants (including delivery and takeout), 1.5% cash back on all other purchases and no annual fee. When paired with cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve® Card or Ink Business Cash® Credit Card, you can use your points to travel for free.
