Turquoise blue water and white sand beaches. Shopping until your heart’s content. Diving among shipwrecks. No passport required (for US Citizens). Just a little taste of what you’ll find in the US Virgin Islands. Oh, and $300 in spending money. Here’s how to get $300 free when you visit the US Virgin Islands.
How to Get $300 Free When You Visit the US Virgin Islands
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the US Virgin Islands. Formerly the Danish West Indies, Denmark sold the islands of St. Croix, St. John, and St. Thomas to the United States for twenty-five million dollars.
To celebrate their centennial, the US Virgin Islands is offering $300 in spending credits when you stay 3 nights or more at participating hotels in 2017.

You’ll get $300 to use at any participating location in the US Virgin Islands when you book your trip on the US Virgin Island Department of Tourism website using promo code CP17.
And if you travel during March, you’ll also receive a special centennial souvenir.
This offer isn’t combinable with other promotions.
Where You Can Use the $300
You can use the $300 on tours and activities like:
- Diving
- Fishing
- Golf
- Helicopter tours
- Kayaking
- Sightseeing tours
- Snorkeling
- Ziplining
- and more!
The $300 can’t be used to pay for accommodations, food, drinks, or gratuities. 🙁
Is This Deal Worth It?
If you were already planning a trip to the US Virgin Islands and considering staying in one of the participating hotels, it could worth it.
But you should compare prices to make sure you aren’t paying more for your hotel to get $300 free money than if you booked your hotel through a site like Booking.com.
Let’s look at an example.
If you book an Island View Studio Suite at the Renaissance St. Croix Carambola Beach Resort & Spa for 3 nights on March 24, 2017, through the US Virgin Island website using promo code CP17, you’d pay $1,332.79.
But if you booked the Renaissance St. Croix Carambola Beach Resort & Spa through Booking.com, you’d pay $1,107.51 for a Deluxe Island View Suite.
Not only would you save $225.28, you also get a larger room.
So do the math and see what works out best.
Conclusion
You can get $300 in spending money when you stay 3 nights or longer at participating hotels in the US Virgin Islands in 2017.
The credit is only valid for activities and tours. So you can’t use it to offset your hotel costs or airfare unlike previous promotions. Nor can you combine it with other offers.
Getting $300 in travel credit sounds enticing, but it could end up paying more for your hotel.
Compare prices on sites like Booking.com before you book to make sure you’re getting the best deals.
Thanks to Thrillist for the heads up about this deal.

I have already booked my hotel/flight to St. Thomas for Sept 2017, staying at the Ritz, , do I still qualify for the rebate? How do I apply for the rebate?
Thanks for your help,
Karen

Hi Karen,
Unfortunately, the Ritz isn't one of the participating hotels. To qualify for the rebate you have to book 3 nights at one of the participating hotels listed above in the post.

We stayed on St John for three consecutive nights. Unfortunately, because the USVI tourism office is unorganized, we did not get our $300 voucher until two hours before our flight home. It's pretty restricted to what you can spend it on, and so we weren't able to spend any of it.
My hotel said that this happened pretty often. If you're planning on going, don't plan on getting these spending credits. I tried contacting their office, but I haven't received a reply (it's been about two weeks).

Hi Phil,
Sorry to hear that.
I didn't think it was a good deal. Because you can find a cheaper rate if you book elsewhere. And as mentioned in my post and confirmed by you, using those credits are really restrictive.
