What happened to my free night from Hotels.com that’s what one reader wants to know.
Robin sent me a message on Facebook
Hi! You introduced me to Hotels.com and I LOVE it and use it whenever I stay over. Just wondering if you’ve had any problem with Free Nights disappearing. I had nine free nights and they are no longer showing. I called them, but they said I had the number I was supposed to have. Then she asked if I had taken a screen shot…which I hadn’t…I didn’t think I needed to worry about it. Just wondering if you know of a way to approach the situation.
I shared about Hotels.com free night program with Robin when we shared a room at a conference in Las Vegas.
What Happened to My Free Night from Hotels.com?
The cool thing about the Hotels.comRewards program is that it’s simple.
You stay 10 nights, you earn a free night.
Nights don’t have to be consecutive. So you can say one night in January, two nights in May, three nights in July, and 4 nights in October. As long as you’ve stayed 10 nights, you’ll earn a free night.
Pro-tip: There’s no limit to how many free nights you can earn.
All accommodation types count towards earning a free night:
- Vacation Rental
Every night counts towards earning a free night when booked through Hotels.com. There are a few exceptions like group and package bookings. And you have to pay taxes and fees on any free nights you redeem.
The most important part: you have to join the free Hotels.com Rewards program.
Once you’ve stayed a total of 10 nights, you’ll get 1 free night.
The value of your free night is the average price of the 10 nights. So if you spent $100 a night then your free night is $100.
Pretty easy, right?
But there’s a slight catch…
Do Hotels.com Free Nights Expire?
You have to be careful because Hotels.com free nights can expire.
Free nights expire after 12 months if you have no activity in your account such as using a free night or staying at a hotel.
So you can keep your account active and save your free nights by using a free night or completing a hotel stay.
Depending on how many free nights you have, it could be worth doing a mattress run to keep your account active.
Given what Robin has told me, her free nights may have expired because she didn’t have any activity on her account.
You can confirm your membership activity in your account.

Expecting a free hotel stay and wondering what happened to your free night from Hotels.com?
The Hotels.com Rewards program is one of the easiest hotel loyalty programs.
For every 10 nights you stay, you earn a free night.
There’s no limit to how many free nights you can earn. So the more you stay, the more you get.
But there’s one slight catch, your account has to be active. Meaning you have to either redeem a free night or book a free night every 12 months.
So if you aren’t seeing your free nights in your Hotels.com Rewards account, your free night could have expired.
