Is IHG’s Into the Nights promotion worth it?

Registration is now open for IHG Rewards Into the Nights promotion. The promotion is valid for stays between September 1 to December 31, 2014.

2 Easy Steps to Earn 2 Free Nights or up to 50,000 IHG Points with IHG Into the Nights

1. Register for the Into the Nights promotion here.
2. Complete your offers

You can earn up to 50,000 points.

The number of points you can earn in the Into the Nights depends on your IHG stay history. You get a personalized offer.

My offer for the Big Win was for 84,000 points.

My 2013 Big Win offer was for 84,000 points

I wasn’t so lucky this time, but maybe you’ll be.

My Into the Nights offer is for 27,100 IHG points.

Not the most enticing Into the Nights offer

You can combine the offers.  So I could stay 7 nights and earn 27,100 IHG points.

Let’s assume an IHG hotel is $100 a night, including taxes.  A 7 night stay would cost $700.

Staying 7 nights to earn 27,100 IHG points isn’t worth it because you can buy IHG points anytime for 1.15 to 1.35 cents each.  If you bought 27,100 IHG points it would cost $311.65, less than half the cost to stay 7 nights.

You can also buy IHG points for 0.7 cents each. So you’d pay $189.70 for 27,100 points.

I’ll probably pass on this offer unless I can find really cheap hotels ($27 to $45 a night) in the cities I’m traveling to this fall.

The Chase Freedom Unlimited® is one of my favorite cards for earning cash back card and travel rewards. It offers a welcome offer of an additional 1.5% cash back on all your purchases up to $20,000 your first year.

My favorite perks about this card are earning 5% cash back on travel booked through the Chase Travel Portal, 3% cash back at drugstores and restaurants (including delivery and takeout), 1.5% cash back on all other purchases and no annual fee.
