Update: The credit card offer in this post is no longer available.  The current offer is 130,000 points – learn more. Check our travel rewards card page for the latest offers.

You can earn 85,000 Hilton points after spending $3,000 on the American Express Hilton Honors Surpass card in the first three months of opening your account.  But you have to apply by July 31, 2015.

You can spend 2 nights at the Waldorf Astoria Panama for 80,000 Hilton points

Normally the bonus is 60,000 Hilton points and briefly last year Amex offered 80,000 for this card.  Could it get higher? I don’t know…

If you were thinking about getting this card, it’s a good offer.  But should you get it?

Hilton Honors Surpass® Credit Card

The welcome bonus on the Hilton Honors Surpass® Credit Card is 130,000 Hilton points after spending $3,000 on purchases in the first 6 months of account opening.  This is the highest offer I’ve seen for this card.

With the Hilton Honors Surpass® Credit Card, you get:

  • Hilton Gold elite status (free breakfast, internet, and 2 bottles of water)*
  • Hilton Diamond elite status after spending $40,000 in a calendar year*
  • 500 Hilton points when you book a stay at any Hilton hotel and pay with your Amex Surpass card
  • 12 Hilton points for every $1 spent at Hilton hotels
  • 6 Hilton points for every $1 spent at US restaurants, US supermarkets, and US gas stations
  • 3 Hilton points for every $1 spent on all other purchases
  • Terms and limitations apply

*Enrollment is required for select benefits.

What Does 85,000 Hilton Points Get You?

If you booked a last minute summer vacation to one of the seven cheap destinations you can fly to from $226, those 85,000 Hilton points could come in handy.

You can stay three nights at DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Cariari San Jose Costa Rica with points you’d earn from the sign-up bonus and minimum spending.

Which Hilton Credit Card?

American Express offers several Hilton credit cards. You can find the best Hilton credit card offers.

You can only get the sign-up bonus on an American Express personal card once.  So if you’ve had the Amex Hilton Honors Surpass card before you can’t get the sign-up bonus.

Conclusion

This is the highest welcome bonus ever offered on the Hilton Honors Surpass Credit Card.  But you can only get the sign-up bonus on a personal American Express card once. So if you’ve had this card in the past, you will not get the sign-up bonus again.

Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is the best card to get started in the world of miles and points. It is the first card you should get to start traveling for free because the welcome offer is 60,000 points after spending $4,000 in the first three months.

My favorite perks about this card are earning 5X points on travel when booked through the Chase portal (2X if direct purchase), 3X points on dining, $50 yearly credit on hotels booked through the Chase portal, no foreign transaction fees, and transferring points to 13 airline and hotel partners like Hyatt, United, and Southwest.

Chase Freedom Unlimited®

The Chase Freedom Unlimited® is one of my favorite cards for earning cash back card and travel rewards. It offers a welcome offer of an additional 1.5% cash back on all your purchases up to $20,000 your first year.

My favorite perks about this card are earning 5% cash back on travel booked through the Chase Travel Portal, 3% cash back at drugstores and restaurants (including delivery and takeout), 1.5% cash back on all other purchases and no annual fee. When paired with cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve® Card or Ink Business Cash® Credit Card, you can use your points to travel for free.
