Got 5 Minutes? How to Earn up to 83,000 Points from SPG Amex

Share with a friend

Update: The credit card offer in this post is no longer available. Check our credit card page for the latest offers.

Big bonuses on the SPG Amex cards are few and far between. That’s why when they come around, you should take advantage of them before they disappear. And in the case of the highest SPG Amex bonus ever, that’s April 5, 2017.

SPG Amex – Up to 83,000 Points

Big bonuses on the SPG Amex cards don't come around that often. But for a limited time you can earn up to 83,000 points. | travel rewards cards | travel hacking | TravelingWellForLess.com

83,000 points gets you 8 nights at the Westin Punta Cana

Currently, you can earn up to 35,000 points from the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card (personal and business). This is the highest welcome offer/bonus offered for the SPG Amex card (personal and business).

The normal welcome offer/bonus is 25,000 points after you spend $3,000 in purchases ($5,000 for the business card) within the first three months of card opening. But with this offer, you can earn an extra 10,000 bonus points on each card.

You can earn 10,000 extra Starpoints by spending an extra $2,000 on the personal card within the first six months. And by spending $3,000 more on the business card in the first six months, you’ll earn 10,000 points.

By applying for both cards you can earn up to 83,000 points after meeting the spending requirements.

This is a really good deal because for most people Starpoints can be very difficult to earn.

I have both the personal and business version of the SPG Amex cards. They were quite handy when Amex had the contract with Costco. And the SPG Amex cards are among my favorite hotel rewards cards.

You can use Starpoints to stay at Starwood hotels. And you can transfer Starwood points to Marriott to stay at Marriott hotels. Starwood points transfer on a 1:3 ratio.

Pro-tip: Your Starwood points are worth more than Marriott points. So you shouldn’t transfer them to Marriott.

Airline Tickets

Miles

Starwood points are transferable to most airline miles on a 1:1 ratio. And when you transfer 20,000 points you get a 5,000 point bonus.

So you can transfer 20,000 Starwood points and get 25,000 American Airlines miles. Which is enough for a one-way ticket to Hawaii!

Tickets

You can redeem Starwood points for airline tickets on over 150 airlines. And there are no blackout dates!

SPG Moments

Through SPG Moments you can use your Starpoints to bid on special events like concerts and sporting events.

Broadway Tickets

You can get free Broadway tickets by redeeming your points through Audience Rewards. But this isn’t the best use of Starwood points.

Conclusion

The highest welcome offer/bonus for the SPG Amex card (personal and business) is back. But this offer ends on April 5, 2017.

You can earn up to 35,000 points on the Starwood Preferred Guest credit card from American Express after spending $3,000 in purchases in the first three months plus an additional $2,000 in the first six months of opening the card.

With the Starwood Preferred Guest Business card from American Express, you can earn up to 35,000 points after spending $5,000 in purchases in the first three months plus an additional $3,000 in the first six months of card opening.

I’ve had both Starwood credit cards for several years. The free Premium in-room Wi-Fi, no foreign transaction fees, and Sheraton Club lounge access (with the business SPG card) are great perks!

You can only get the welcome offer/bonus once on American Express cards. So if you haven’t gotten either of these cards yet, now is the time.

Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is the best card to get started in the world of miles and points. It is the first card you should get to start traveling for free because the welcome offer is 60,000 points after spending $4,000 in the first three months.

My favorite perks about this card are earning 5X points on travel when booked through the Chase portal (2X if direct purchase), 3X points on dining, $50 yearly credit on hotels booked through the Chase portal, no foreign transaction fees, and transferring points to 13 airline and hotel partners like Hyatt, United, and Southwest.

Chase Freedom Unlimited®

The Chase Freedom Unlimited® is one of my favorite cards for earning cash back card and travel rewards. It offers a welcome offer of an additional 1.5% cash back on all your purchases up to $20,000 your first year.

My favorite perks about this card are earning 5% cash back on travel booked through the Chase Travel Portal, 3% cash back at drugstores and restaurants (including delivery and takeout), 1.5% cash back on all other purchases and no annual fee. When paired with cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve® Card or Ink Business Cash® Credit Card, you can use your points to travel for free.

Wow! I hadn't heard about the extra 10,000 points so that is great to know. And I had no clue you could use Starwood Points for flights and even Broadway tickets. Thanks for the tip.

We are already Starwood members, so this looks like something worth checking out. Thanks for the tip. It is a great deal and anything that helps to reduce to travel costs is a good thing.

I don't know how you figure out all these clever ways to earn reward miles with credit cards, but I really need to try it for myself! I can see that it takes a little work and organization, but to be able to use the points to help afford travel makes it so worth it!

Incredible, thanks for the heads up! We've got two more days so will look into organizing a card - since we're in Australia at the moment we have everything re routing through my Aunt - so might take a couple of weeks for her t forward to Aus but should be able to still hit the spending requirements even with a delay :) Thanks!

I personally don't recommend transferring them to airline miles. I think it's a much better use to use as SPG points on hotels, especially since there are some REALLY great "high value" hotels that you can get for "cheap" on points. It will be interesting to see what happens here with the mergers though!
