3x Miles on American Airlines

Share with a friend

If you’ve been reading the blog you know I love American Airlines and any chance to earn miles I’m on it. So I was stoked when my friend Steve forwarded an email to me about a 3x miles on American Airlines deal on airline tickets.

Sadly, I wasn’t targeted. 🙁

But you might be!

Check your email because you may have been targeted to earn 3x miles on American Airlines.

If you got the offer you have to register by September 14, 2018.

You’ll earn 3x miles on all paid tickets Premium Economy, Business Class, or First Class through December 7, 2018:

  • Premium Economy tickets booked in W and P
  • Business Class tickets booked in D, I, R, and J
  • First Class tickets booked in A and F

Miles earned are award miles vs EQMs (elite qualifying miles). Which means you’ll earn more miles for free flights.

This is a great deal if you have plans to fly on American and can find a good deal on tickets. On some flights, a First Class ticket is cheaper than an economy ticket or maybe just a little bit more money.

You should do the math to see if buying a higher priced ticket is worth the 3x award miles.

Pro-tip: You’ll also earn triple miles on American-marketed flights on British Airways, Finnair, Iberia and Japan Airlines. So this means you can fly internationally and earn 3x award miles!

How Many Miles You Could Earn

You earn award miles based on your elite status and the cost of your ticket:

  • AAdvantage member – 5 miles for ever $1
  • Gold member – 7 miles for every $1
  • Platinum member – 8 miles for every $1
  • Platinum Pro member – 9 miles for every $1
  • Executive Platinum member – 11 miles for every $1

Pro-tip: American limits how many award miles you can earn on a ticket. The maximum award miles you can earn on 1 ticket is 75,000 miles.

Elite Qualifying Miles

When you buy higher priced tickets you get more EQMs (elite qualifying miles). So depending on the types of tickets you buy, you could reach elite status faster.

Here’s how many EQMs you’ll earn:

  • Premium Economy tickets (W, P) earn 1.50 EQMs per mile flown
  • Discount First/Business tickets (A, D, I, R) earn 2 EQMs per mile flown
  • Full Fare First/Business tickets (F, J) earn 3 EQMs per mile flown

Conclusion

Check your email to see if you got the 3x miles on American Airlines offer on flights through December 7, 2018.

It’s a targeted offer and not available to everyone. Such a bummer, right.

Getting triple award miles is a great deal plus you’ll earn more elite qualifying miles (EQMs) when you buy Premium Economy, Business Class, and First Class tickets.

And you can get the 3x miles offer on British Airways, Finnair, Iberia and Japan Airlines that are marketed as American Airlines flights.

If you got the offer, where are you planning on flying?
