Club Carlson Triple Points Returns

The Club Carlson Triple Points Returns promotion is back.

You’ll earn triple points when you stay at participating Radisson, Radisson Blu, Country Inns & Suites, Park Inn, and Park Plaza hotels worldwide between January 8 – March 15, 2013.

Like room service?  Or plan on dining at the hotel restaurant?  You’ll also earn triple points on food and beverage charges to your room.

2 Easy Steps to Earning Triple Points With Club Carlson Triple Points Returns:

  1. Register for the Club Carlson Triple Points Return promotion
  2. Stay at a participating Radisson, Radisson Blu, Country Inns & Suites, Park Inn, and Park Plaza hotels worldwide between January 8 – March 15, 2013

Is the Club Carlson Triple Points Returns promotion worthy of a mattress run?

In my opinion, no.  And here’s why…

Let’s assume a Radisson Hotel costs $100 a night.  With the Club Carlson Triple Points Returns promotion you’ll earn 60 points per $1 (20 standard + 40 bonus points under the promotion) which translates to 6,000 points for a $100 a night hotel.

Airport hotels on the weekends can sometimes be found for $89 a night on Expedia, Orbitz, and Travelocity.

Using Radisson’s Best Rate Guarantee which matches the lower rate you found and gives you an additional 25% off, that room would be reduced to approximately $67 a night, making your cost $0.08 cpp (cost per point). ($67 ÷ 4020 = $0.16).

16 cents per points is excessive especially when you buy Club Carlson points for less than half that cost.

While it’s not mattress run worthy, it’s still worthy of registering for the promotion, especially if you have upcoming Radisson stays.

These calculations are based on the assumption that you do not have status with Club Carlson nor have the US Bank Club Carlson Premier credit card.

 Summary of the fine print:

  • Registration is required and must be completed before your stay or before checkout of your eligible stay
  • You’ll earn 40 Gold Points per $1 spent along with the standard 20 Gold Points per $1 spent
  • Stay at a participating Radisson, Radisson Blu, Country Inns & Suites, Park Inn, and Park Plaza hotels worldwide between January 8 – March 15, 2013
  • Bonus points will be received on eligible stay rates and food and beverages charged t your room

Remember to register for the Club Carlson Triple Points Returns promotion.

Chase Sapphire Preferred

The Chase Sapphire Preferred is the best card for beginning travel hackers. It is the first card you should get to start traveling for free because the welcome offer is 60,000 points (after spending $4,000 in the first three months).

My favorite perks about this card are earning 2X points on travel and dining, no foreign transaction fees, and transferring points to 13 airline and hotel partners like Hyatt, United, and Southwest.

Chase Freedom Unlimited

The Chase Freedom Unlimited is one of my favorite cards for earning cash back card and travel rewards. It offers a welcome offer of $200 (after spending $500 in the first three months).

My favorite perks about this card are earning 5% cash back at grocery stores the first 12 months (up to $12k), unlimited 1.5% cash back on all purchases and no annual fee. When paired with cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve, you can use your points to travel for free.
