Should You Buy Hilton Points?
Not sure if you should buy points? I’ve written about when you should buy hotel points.
Hilton points normally cost 1 cent per point. With this promotion, you can buy points for as low as 0.56 cents.
If you buy 20,000 Hilton points, you’ll get a 16,000 point bonus (80%). So 36,000 points will only cost $200.
When you buy 80,000 points you get 64,000 bonus points. So for $800 you get 144,000 Hilton points
Remember you get up to an 80% bonus whether you buy 20,000 or 80,000 points or any amount in between. So this is a good deal especially if you want to book free nights at expensive hotels like the Conrad Maldives. Let’s take a look at some examples of how buying points can save you money.
Holiday & Peak Travel
Buying points can save you money during the holidays, summer, and other times of peak travel. Because hotel rooms are more expensive. Purchasing points and using them for free hotel nights can be cheaper than paying cash for your room.
Hawaii
For example, you’ll pay $365 a night for 4 nights at the Hilton Waikoloa Village from June 9, 2018 to June 14, 2018. Your total cost included the daily $35 resort fee plus taxes would be $2,288.40.
You can book the same hotel for 59,000 points per night. Your total cost would be 236,000 points. You would not pay a resort fee because it’s waiver when you use points to pay your hotel.
Buying 236,000 points costs $1,320. You’d buy 80,000 points and get a 64,000 point bonus, 144,000 points for $800. Then your traveling companion can buy 52,000 points and get a 41,600 point bonus, 93,600 points for $520.
So you’d save $968.40 buying Hilton points and redeeming them for your hotel room at the Hilton Waikoloa Village in Hawaii instead of paying cash.
New York
You’d pay $3,199 to stay at the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton New York City – Times Square on New Year’s Eve. With taxes, you’ll end up spending $3,676.35.
Or you can use 95,000 points. Buying 95,000 points cost$530. You’d buy 53,000 points and get a 42,400 point bonus for a total of 95,400 points.
You’d save $3,146.35 buying points and using those for your New Year’s Eve hotel room instead of paying cash.
Pro-tip: You can see the ball drop from your room at the DoubleTree Suites. So you could stay inside where it’s warm, where you have easy access to food and drink, and still see the ball drop!.
Orlando – Disneyworld
A week at the Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista Resort – an official Walt Disney World hotel during spring break March 16, 2018 to March 22, 2018 costs $259 a night. Your total price including the $30 daily resort fee is $2,275.88.
If you used points, it costs 50,000 points a night or 350,000 points for 7 nights.
During the up to 80% bonus Hilton points sale, you can buy 350,000 points for $1,950. You’d buy 80,000 points and get a 64,000 point bonus, 144,000 points for $800. Then your traveling companion can buy 80,000 points and get a 64,000 point bonus, 144,000 points for $800. Then have one of your children purchase 35,000 points to get the 28,000 point bonus for 63,000 points at a cost of $350.
When you buy points and stay at the Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista Resort, you’ll save $325.88.
Pro-tip: You can get the 5th night free and pay fewer hotel points.
5th Night Free
You get the 5th night free when you use points to stay 5 nights at Hilton hotels. Instead of paying for 5 nights, you only pay for 4 nights.

Conclusion

The bonus is tiered depending on how many points you purchase with a minimum bonus of 60% points. Buying 10,000 points to 19,000 points gets you the 60% bonus. When you buy 20,000 to 80,000 points you get an 80% bonus.
You can buy up to 80,000 points for a total of 144,000 points during this promotion. But because Hilton lets you combine (pool) points, you, your family and friends can all buy 80,000 Hilton points and get 144,000 points. This is a smart way to maximize this bonus.
This is a great way to save money on hotels, especially at expensive hotels or during the holidays. Because it can be cheaper to buy points and use them for free nights instead of paying cash for your room.
