How to Buy Starwood Points

1.  Use this link to buy Starwood points.
2.  Enter your information.
3.  Choose how many points you want to buy.
4.  Pay with your credit card.

Pro-tip: Because buying SPG points doesn’t count as a travel purchase you won’t get extra points when you pay with a travel rewards card like the Chase Sapphire Reserve® Card. So you should use a new card that you have to complete minimum spending.

Should You Buy Starwood Points?

In August, Starwood points will convert to Marriott points at a 1 to 3 ratio. You’ll get 3 Marriott points for every 1 Starwood point. So 30,000 Starwood points become 90,000 Marriott points.

You can also transfer Starwood and Marriott points to participating airlines at a 1:1 ratio. Plus, you get a 5,000 point bonus for every 20,000 points transferred. So, those 90,000 Starwood/Marriott points become 110,000 airline miles!

So should you buy SPG points?

You shouldn’t buy points to bulk up your stash or just because of the sale.

But buying points makes sense depending on how they’re used. You have to do the math to see if it’s worth it to buy Starwood points.

If you stay in expensive hotels or during peak times, or if you use your points for airline tickets, you can save a lot of money when you buy Starwood points.
