Got an upcoming Hyatt hotel stay? Here’s how you can pay less points when you stay at Hyatt hotels.
I found a trick to save points on Hyatt hotels that doesn’t involve using Hyatt Points + Cash or even Hyatt points.
You can pay less points on Hyatt hotel night award stays booking your Hyatt hotel through the Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall. And you don’t have to bother with transferring your Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Hyatt.
3 Steps to Pay Less Points on Hyatt Hotel Stays
1. Log into your Chase Ultimate Rewards account
2. Search for a Hyatt hotel
3. Book hotel using Chase Ultimate Rewards points
Pay less points on Hyatt hotel stays
1. Washington, DC
I was searching for a rental car in the Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall and decided to check rates on hotels because I’m arriving early for the Family Travel 4 Real Life Conference.
The Grand Hyatt Washington, DC is a Category 5 hotel and costs 20,000 Hyatt points. But you would only pay 12,208 Chase Ultimate Rewards points through the Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall, a savings of 7,792 Hyatt points!
2. Cancun, Mexico
You’ll pay 22,023 Chase Ultimate Rewards points at the all-inclusive Hyatt Zilara Cancun. Using Hyatt points would cost 25,000 Hyatt points.
3. Orlando
You can pay 15,000 Hyatt points to stay at the Category 4, Hyatt Regency Orlando. Or you could save 3,698 points by paying 11,302 Chase Ultimate Rewards points.
5 Things to know when booking through the Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall
When you book through the Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall, you can pay with Chase Ultimate Rewards points, cash, or a combination of Chase Ultimate Rewards points and cash.
1. Pay with Chase Ultimate Rewards points
You can pay for your Hyatt hotel stay using Chase Ultimate Rewards points.
2. Pay with Chase Ultimate Rewards points and cash
You can also pay with a combination of Chase Ultimate Rewards points and cash. You can choose any combination of points and cash.
You could save 10,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points by paying with points and cash.
3. Pay with cash
You can also pay cash through the Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall and earn an extra Chase Ultimate Rewards point.
4. Points price is not fixed
Unlike booking through the Hyatt website where the rate for a free night is constant, the cost of using Chase Ultimate Rewards points through the Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall can vary.
For the night of August 23, 2014, at the Grand Hyatt Washington, DC, you’ll pay 12,208 Chase Ultimate Rewards points. But on August 24, 2014, you would pay 14,642 Chase Ultimate Rewards points.
5. If you have the Chase Freedom Flex card, using points cost more
The Hyatt Zilara Cancun costs 22,023 Chase Ultimate Rewards points using your Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card. But you’ll pay 27,529 Chase Ultimate Rewards points using your Chase Freedom Flex℠ which is 2,529 more points than using 25,000 Hyatt points.
Earning Hyatt elite stay credit
Because you earn miles when booking flights through the Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall, you should also earn credit towards Hyatt elite status by booking through the Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall.
I haven’t had my stay yet so I won’t know until next month.
Summary
Booking your Hyatt award stay through the Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall can save you points, especially if you use Chase Ultimate Rewards points from your Chase Sapphire Preferred card.
But you’ll pay more if you use Chase Ultimate Rewards points from your Chase Freedom Flex card.
You should compare rates on the Hyatt website and Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall before booking your Hyatt stay.

I forgot to ask... what's the formula for using points valuation? As I mentioned in my previous comment, I believe using either points or points plus cash will be a better deal if a nightly rate is $400+ but how do I justify that as a formula if, for example, one Hyatt point is currently valued at 2 cents? I get so confused! So again, your help is appreciated! :)

Hello. I realize that this an old post, but can you help me figure out how points valuation works? More specifically, is it better to use Hyatt points for 12,000 a night or use 6,000 points plus US $99 cash? If a nightly stay costs about $400+ then points or points+cash is a better deal, right? I just don't know if I should use all points or points plus cash. Look forward to your response and it will be greatly appreciated! :)

Hi Sajer Guy,
I canceled my Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall booking because I got a cheaper rate using My Elite Rate.
I have another upcoming stay so I'll let you know.

Do you also earn full stay credit and points or is this channel considered a third party travel agent site?
I suppose this is a good way to save cash but it really means you're using points sub optimally. At those cash rates I'd much rather use cash than use Hyatt or UR points which are worth more than 1.25 cents each to me.

Hi Songer,
Theoretically you should earn stay credit because you earn miles when you book flights through the Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall.
I haven't had my stay yet, but will back if I earn credit and whether the hotel acknowledges my elite benefits.
I agree, depending on the cash price, it's better to pay cash and save the Chase Ultimate Rewards points for more expensive properties.
