Saturday Summary: Double American Miles, Hyatt Points + Cash, And More!

Share with a friend

Here’s a summary of this week’s miles and points offers, deals, and specials:

Credit Cards

  • Free Hilton Diamond status if you have an American Express Hilton Surpass card. If you have an American Express Hilton Surpass card, you can get Hilton Gold status for free.

Airlines

  • Double AAdvantage miles. You can get double AAdvantage miles when you fly on Qatar Airways between November 15, 2013 and December 19, 2013 or January 6, 2014 and January 31, 2014. Registration prior to travel is required, using promo code: QRDBL.
  • American Airlines offers upgrades to the highest bidder. You can bid for an upgrade to Business or First Class on American Airlines. American is testing a program that allows non-elites to bid for upgrades on their flights.  You can begin bidding 6 days before your flight.
  • US Airways to leave Star Alliance. US Airways is reportedly leaving the Star Alliance on March 1, 2014.  If you want to use your US Airways miles on Star Alliance flights you should make your award bookings before March 1, 2014.  Once US Airways leaves the Star Alliance, you will not be able to use your US Airways miles for Star Alliance flights nor will you be able to make changes to any award flights.

Hotels

  • Hyatt introduces Points + Cash, 20% discount for Elites, and extends life of points. On January 7, 2014, you can use Points+Cash to pay for your Hyatt reservations.  And reservations paid with Points+Cash will earn elite credit and points for the cash portion.  Platinum and Diamond members can get 20% the daily rate which could mean you’d pay less.

Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is the best card to get started in the world of miles and points. It is the first card you should get to start traveling for free because the welcome offer is 60,000 points after spending $4,000 in the first three months.

My favorite perks about this card are earning 5X points on travel when booked through the Chase portal (2X if direct purchase), 3X points on dining, $50 yearly credit on hotels booked through the Chase portal, no foreign transaction fees, and transferring points to 13 airline and hotel partners like Hyatt, United, and Southwest.

Chase Freedom Unlimited®

The Chase Freedom Unlimited® is one of my favorite cards for earning cash back card and travel rewards. It offers a welcome offer of an additional 1.5% cash back on all your purchases up to $20,000 your first year.

My favorite perks about this card are earning 5% cash back on travel booked through the Chase Travel Portal, 3% cash back at drugstores and restaurants (including delivery and takeout), 1.5% cash back on all other purchases and no annual fee. When paired with cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve® Card or Ink Business Cash® Credit Card, you can use your points to travel for free.
