The Sunday Someday weekly series features bucket list destinations and how to get there using miles and points.
Today’s Sunday Someday is Venice.
I’ve never wanted to go to Venice. My mother loved horror, occult, and science fiction movies. Childhood weekends were spent watching movie after movie. The movie, “Don’t Look Now,” gave me an intense fear of Venice. I can’t even look at a child’s red raincoat without thinking of that movie.
But sometimes you have to do things you don’t want to because of love. Venice is on Jeff’s bucket list so it looks like we’re going. Unless I can stall him. 🙂
For the best weather, late spring and early summer are the best times to visit Venice. If you want to avoid the crowds, go during the fall. But be prepared for flooding and rain.
You can use airline miles and points to fly to Venice. You’ll pay the least amount of frequent flyer miles if you fly on American Airlines. You’ll pay 40,000 American Airlines miles for a roundtrip coach ticket, 100,000 American Airlines miles for roundtrip Business Class, and 125,000 American Airlines miles for roundtrip First Class.
Sometimes you can find a great deal using Lufthansa miles. Right now you can fly roundtrip to Venice for 30,000 Lufthanasa miles. With the current 50,000 Lufthansa miles bonus on the Lufthansa credit card, you almost have enough miles for 2 roundtrip coach tickets. But the bonus ends on Monday, June 30, 2014.
What places in Venice are a must?

We went to Venice twice. Once, on our "honeymoon" and then, 20 years later with our teenage kids. There is nothing like Venice for the beauty and the culture. If you take the time to wander the back roads, you'll appreciate it more. The rest, pretend the crowd and the peddlers didn't exist.

Hi TTN,
Thanks for the tips. We're planning on going during the off season so there won't be as many people.
