Hyatt Imagine the Possiblities promotion

I always read the fine print so how I missed that the ability to earn up to 78,000 Bonus Hyatt Gold Passport Points for the Imagine the Possibilities promotion is beyond me.

When Hyatt announced the Imagine the Possibilies promotion (registration has ended) which gives enrollees 5,000 points after every 5 stays, I registered. But that’s neither here nor there since I register for every hotel and airline promotion because you never know.

Having done the domestic portion of the StarMegaDO4 (SMD4), I already had completed 3 stays. Since I was more than halfway there I opted to do two staycations at a local Hyatt.

The Imagine the Possibilities 5,000 bonus Hyatt Gold Passport points posted immediately, along with a line item that also said Imagine the Possibilities but listed 1,000 bonus Hyatt Gold Passport points. Huh? Exactly.

So I pull up my email confirmation from the promotion to read the terms and conditions and low and behold, I find my answer:

“HYATT CREDIT CARD BONUS: During the Promotion Period, registered Hyatt Gold Passport members with a valid Hyatt Credit Card will receive an additional 1,000 Hyatt Gold Passport bonus points after they complete their first five (5) Eligible Nights, an additional 2,000 bonus points for every five (5) subsequent eligible nights thereafter, up to 35 nights. The maximum earning during the Promotion Period for Hyatt Credit Card holders is 78,000 Hyatt Gold Passport bonus points (65,000 Hyatt Gold Passport bonus points from the current Hyatt Gold Passport Promotion + 13,000 Hyatt Gold Passport bonus points from the Hyatt Credit Card member additional Promotion). Hyatt Credit Card bonus points will be posted in accordance with the posting of bonus points from the current Hyatt Gold Passport Promotion”

So, if you have the Hyatt credit card, registered in the Imagine the Possibilities promotion, and complete a minimum of 5 stays you will earn 6,000 bonus Hyatt Gold Passport points.

Essentially you can earn up to 78,000 bonus Hyatt Gold Passport points if you stay 35 nights.  (65,000 bonus points + 13,000 bonus points for Hyatt credit card holders).

I only wish I would have done my initial stays earlier in the promotion period since the Imagine the Possibilities promotion ends November 30, 2012.  I would have shifted hotel stays from several other chains to Hyatt to lock in those additional Hyatt Gold Passport bonus points.

Moral of the story: always read the fine print.

Do you read the fine print? What deals have you missed out on because of the fine print?
