I passed on 41,812 United miles and I’m okay with it.
I mentioned last week that I was going to Seoul, Korea because of a great First Class deal.
Normally I wouldn’t spend $1,734 on a ticket but for an international First Class flight, it was a bargain. And one I didn’t want to pass up.
The only glitch was the flight left from Boston…I live in San Diego.
Normally that’s not a problem because I love positioning flights. After all, it’s extra miles!
For a good deal, I’ll start anywhere. I’ve flown from Boston to Anchorage, from Miami to Rio, from Chicago to Shanghai, from New York to Milan, from Honolulu to Sydney, from New York to Dubai, and from Seattle to Managua.
Because I didn’t have any flights for this month, I booked my ticket for next week. Usually, I can find an inexpensive flight to the East coast whether it’s a paid ticket or using miles. But this time, I wasn’t so lucky.
The cheapest flight was over $600. If I used miles it would cost 37,500 American Airlines miles or 50,000 United miles. There were no flights available using British Airways Avios points.
As a 1K on United, I would earn 41,812 United miles.
Given that I would spend almost as many miles that I’d earn to get to Boston, not to mention that $1,734 is a lot of money, I canceled my ticket.
And I’m okay with it.
Or at least that’s what I keep telling myself.
Have you ever regretting canceling a flight?
