Share with a friend

Say hello to 100,000 British Airways points (Avios).  The lucrative British Airways Visa Signature® Card is back.

Update: The credit card offer in this post is no longer available. The new offer is 75,000 points after spending $5,000 on purchases in the first three months. And you earn 5x Avios on up to $10,000 spent on gas, grocery stores, and dining during your first 12 months. Check our credit card page for the latest offers.

This is a great deal if you use miles and points to fly on oneworld airlines like American Airlines, want cheap flights to Hawaii, fly to London often, and if you fly to Europe and connect through London.

75,000 British Airways Points

You can earn 75,000 British Airways points (Avios) from the British Airways Visa Signature® Card after spending $5,000 in the first 3 months.

Plus you’ll earn 5x Avios on up to $10,000 spent on gas, grocery stores, and dining during your first 12 months.

And when you spend $30,000 a year on this card, you can earn a Travel Together Ticket which is valid for two years (24 months). The Travel Together Ticket lets you bring a companion for free on a flight with you.

Because British Airways belongs to the oneworld alliance, you can use Avios points on member airlines like American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, and more.

Pro-tip: It only costs 12,500 Avios one-way to Hawaii. With the 100,000 point bonus, you could get 8 one-way tickets to Hawaii or 4 roundtrip tickets!

If you currently have this card or it’s been less than 24 months since you had the card or received the bonus, you aren’t eligible for the bonus.

Pro-tip: You can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points transfer on a 1:1 ratio to British Airways from cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, Chase Sapphire Reserve® Card, and Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card.

These are all the cards that earn Chase Ultimate Rewards points.

British Airways Visa Signature® Card

Companion Travel Together Certificate

As a British Airways Card holder, you can earn a Companion Travel Together certificate that lets you bring a companion on your flight for free!

You only pay the taxes and government fees. And because you get up to $600 a year rebate on airline taxes and fees, it could be a totally free flight!

Unlike the Southwest Companion Pass unlimited use perk which lets your companion fly free on all your flights for up to two years regardless of if you’re on an award ticket or cash ticket, the British Airways Companion Travel Together Ticket can only be used for one flight when you book a reward ticket.

In other words, you can bring a companion for free when you use your points to book a free flight for yourself.

But it’s a free flight so a win. 🙂

Should You Get This Card

The British Airways card is a great deal if you fly on oneworld airlines like American Airlines, want cheap flights to Hawaii, and/or fly to London often. It’s also great if you fly to Europe and connect through London.

With the 75,000 point bonus, you could get lots of free tickets to Hawaii and throughout the world.

The yearly $600 statement credits on airline taxes and fees on award tickets make flying from the US to or through London less expensive. The credit varies depending on your fare class.

You get a $200 statement credit for First Class and Business Class tickets and a $100 credit for premium economy and economy tickets.

Conclusion

The British Airways Visa Signature® Card is offering 75,000 British Airways points (Avios) bonus.

You can use Avios points on airlines like American Airlines. So you can use Avios to fly in the US. It’s only 12,500 points to fly to Hawaii.

When you spend $30,000 in a calendar year, you can earn the Travel Together Ticket that lets a companion fly for free. This is a one-time use companion pass vs the up to two year Southwest Companion Pass.

Decide not to go for the extra points? You can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points transfer on a 1:1 ratio to British Airways from cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, and Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card.

Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is the best card to get started in the world of miles and points. It is the first card you should get to start traveling for free because the welcome offer is 60,000 points after spending $4,000 in the first three months.

My favorite perks about this card are earning 5X points on travel when booked through the Chase portal (2X if direct purchase), 3X points on dining, $50 yearly credit on hotels booked through the Chase portal, no foreign transaction fees, and transferring points to 13 airline and hotel partners like Hyatt, United, and Southwest.

Chase Freedom Unlimited®

The Chase Freedom Unlimited® is one of my favorite cards for earning cash back card and travel rewards. It offers a welcome offer of an additional 1.5% cash back on all your purchases up to $20,000 your first year.

My favorite perks about this card are earning 5% cash back on travel booked through the Chase Travel Portal, 3% cash back at drugstores and restaurants (including delivery and takeout), 1.5% cash back on all other purchases and no annual fee. When paired with cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve® Card or Ink Business Cash® Credit Card, you can use your points to travel for free.

I've had the Chase BA Visa Signature Card since 2003 and am $1,100 away from getting my second Travel Together voucher in as many years. It's my longest held credit card, so for the sake of my credit score, I'm not keen to cancel it. On the other hand, the chance for 100,000 Avios (I currently have 560,000 thanks to this card and a fair amount of biz travel several years ago) and another voucher is difficult to pass up.

Any advice?

Definitely do not cancel your initial card. Spend that last $1,100 for your second Travel Together voucher.
