Here’s how you can earn more miles, more hotel points, and get a chance to earn elite status faster!
Earn American Airlines Miles for Hyatt Stays

You can earn one American Airlines mile per dollar spent at Hyatt hotels and on Hyatt experiences such as FIND.
This offer applies if you are a member of both World of Hyatt and AAdvantage with one of the following AA statuses:
- Gold
- Platinum
- Platinum Pro
- Executive Platinum
Once you’ve linked your accounts, you’ll automatically earn 1 American mile for every $1 spent on Hyatt stays and experiences. And you’ll still earn your Hyatt points. So you will earn both American Airlines miles and Hyatt points.
AAdvantage elite member will have access to the WoH dedicated check-in area, late check-out, room upgrades, and free premium internet.
Qualified spending is defined as spending on hotel rooms, restaurants, spa, etc.
Because you’ll only earn miles when you pay cash, you may want to reconsider when to use points and when to use cash for your hotel stays.
The bonus miles will post only when your accounts are linked so you should link your accounts ASAP. You will not get retroactive miles.
Miles are bonus miles and don’t count towards elite status nor Million Miler status.
This is an ongoing offer without an expiration date.
Pro-tip: You’ll stop earning bonus miles for Hyatt stays if you drop below AAdvantage Gold status.
Earn Hyatt Points When Flying American Airlines
After you’ve linked your American Airlines AAdvantage and World of Hyatt account, not only will you earn miles for Hyatt stays, you will also earn Hyatt points when flying on American Airlines. This means you’ll earn both American Airlines miles and Hyatt points on every flight.
To earn the bonus Hyatt points on American Airlines flights you have to be an elite World of Hyatt member:
- Discoverist
- Explorist
- Globalist
Pro-tip: You get free Discoverist status from the World of Hyatt credit card.
WoH elite members will have access to priority boarding, free checked bags, free preferred seats, and more.
Only American Airlines and American Eagle marketed and operated flights qualify to earn Hyatt points. Codeshare, partner flights, bulk and consolidator fares aren’t eligible to earn Hyatt points.
Remember to link your accounts before you fly. Only linked accounts will earn points.
Pro-tip: You’ll stop earning bonus Hyatt points on American Airlines flights if you drop below World of Hyatt Discoverist status.
Elite Status Challenge
Once you’ve linked your AAdvantage and World of Hyatt accounts, you could be targeted for an American Airlines elite status challenge and/or a World of Hyatt elite status challenge.
If you’re selected there will be an offer on your account page with the specific details of your elite status challenge.
American Airlines Concierge Key (CK) members have been given Globalist status without a challenge requirement.
American Airlines Elite Status Challenge
If you are a World of Hyatt Explorist or Globalist you might be targeted with an American Airlines elite status challenge.
Some Globalists received free AAdvantage Platinum status for 3 months and the opportunity to keep elite status through January 31, 2021:
- Gold status after spending $1,000 EQDs and earning 7,000 EQMs or 8 EQSs in 90 days
- Platinum status after spending $2,000 EQDs and earning 12,500 EQMs or 16 EQs in 90 days
- Platinum Pro status after spending $3,000 EQDs and earning 20,000 EQMs or 24 EQs in 90 days
- Executive Platinum status after spending $5,000 EQDs and earning 35,000 EQMs or 40 EQs in 90 days
Only EQDs and EQMs earned on flights operated and marketed by American Airlines, American Eagle, British Airways, Finnair, Iberia, and Japan Airlines count towards the challenge. Those cheap Cathay Pacific New Year’s Eve flights won’t count. 🙁
You have to register by September 30, 2019.
Double check that your email address for your World of Hyatt account is valid. Because American will email you your elite status challenge.
Pro-tip: Plan your registration strategically. The elite challenge begins the day you register.
World of Hyatt Elite Status Challenge
If you have American Airlines AAdvantage Platinum, Platinum Pro, or Executive Platinum status you could be targeted for a World of Hyatt elite status challenge.
You get free Explorist status for 90 days and can keep and earn elite status through February 28, 2021:
- Stay 10 nights at any Hyatt hotel or resort within 90 days to earn Explorist
- Stay an additional 10 nights at any Hyatt hotel or resort within 90 days to earn Globalist
But you have to register by October 1, 2019.
Pro-tip: Check your email address for your American Airlines account. Because World of Hyatt will email you your elite status challenge.
As I’m already an American Airlines Executive Platinum member and a World of Hyatt Globalist and will be requalifying very soon on both accounts, I wasn’t given a status challenge offer.

How to Link Your American AAdvantage and World of Hyatt Accounts
It’s easy and only takes a couple of minutes to link your American AAdvantage and World of Hyatt accounts.

Link your accounts using the link in the email from American Airlines with the subject line “Earn more with World of Hyatt and AAdvantage.”
If you use Gmail, this might be in your promotions tab.
This will take you to the American Airlines website.

Enter World of Hyatt Number

Enter your World of Hyatt number in the box on the right.
Click the box to agree to the terms and conditions, then click the blue “Link your account” button.
Pro-tip: This is case sensitive.
You’ll get an “accounts are linked” message if you’ve successfully linked your account.

Now you’ll start earning American Airlines miles for Hyatt stays and Hyatt points on American Airlines flights.
How to Unlink Your Accounts
If you change your mind and want to unlink your accounts you have to call:
- AAdvantage customer service 800-882-8880, Monday to Friday from 8 am to 7 pm Central Time
- World of Hyatt customer service 800-544-9288
Pro-tip: You don’t have to call both American and World of Hyatt, just one.
