Get 5X Points at Grocery & Home Improvement Stores

Share with a friend

Groceries are our second largest expense every month. But this quarter I don’t mind because I’ll earn lots of points. Here’s how you can get 5X points at grocery & home improvement stores.

Get 5X Points at Grocery & Home Improvement Stores

You can earn 5% cash back or 5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points when you use your Chase Freedom card at grocery stores and home improvements through June 30, 2019.

When you’re feeding a family, it’s easy to spend a lot at grocery stores. So now’s a great time to earn more points on your purchases.

You’ll earn 5% cash back or 5X points on grocery store and home improvement store purchases up to $1,500. You’ll get $75 or 7,500 points.

But you have to activate your category bonus.

Pro-tip: Although you can buy groceries at Walmart and Target, those purchases don’t count as grocery store purchases.

Chase Freedom

The Chase Freedom is one of the best no annual fee cards.

You can earn a $150 signup bonus after spending $500 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening.

For those times when you can’t pay your balance in full, the Chase Freedom gives 0% APR for 15 months on balance transfers. But it’s never a good idea to carry a balance. Because the rewards you get aren’t worth paying interest on.

Pro-tip: You can use your Chase Freedom points for free hotels and flights. You have to transfer the points to your Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card to redeem for hotels and flights.

How to Maximize This Offer

Grocery Stores

If you have teenage boys, it’s easy to spend $1,5000 on food. 🙂 But you don’t have to have a bunch of ravenous teens to maximize this offer.

Because many grocery stores sell a variety of gift cards such as restaurant gift cards, store gift cards, gas gift cards, and even airline gift cards, you can buy $1,500 in gift cards and earn 5% cash back or 5X points.

Pro-tip: Here’s another easy way to max out your Chase Freedom bonus at gas stations.

Home Improvement Stores

You might be more excited to start spring cleaning aka purging via the KonMari method, gardening or sprucing up your home now that you can earn 5X points.

Like grocery stores, you can buy gift cards at home improvement stores. It’s a great time to stock up on gift cards for Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and graduation.

Here’s a list of all the gift cards carried by Lowe’s.

Note: These were the gift cards available from my local Lowe’s, your local store may or may not offer the same selection.

Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is the best card to get started in the world of miles and points. It is the first card you should get to start traveling for free because the welcome offer is 60,000 points after spending $4,000 in the first three months.

My favorite perks about this card are earning 5X points on travel when booked through the Chase portal (2X if direct purchase), 3X points on dining, $50 yearly credit on hotels booked through the Chase portal, no foreign transaction fees, and transferring points to 13 airline and hotel partners like Hyatt, United, and Southwest.

Chase Freedom Unlimited®

The Chase Freedom Unlimited® is one of my favorite cards for earning cash back card and travel rewards. It offers a welcome offer of an additional 1.5% cash back on all your purchases up to $20,000 your first year.

My favorite perks about this card are earning 5% cash back on travel booked through the Chase Travel Portal, 3% cash back at drugstores and restaurants (including delivery and takeout), 1.5% cash back on all other purchases and no annual fee. When paired with cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve® Card or Ink Business Cash® Credit Card, you can use your points to travel for free.
