Hyatt Extending Expiring Suite Upgrades & Giving Points for Expiring Awards

Share with a friend

Do you have World of Hyatt suite upgrades or free night awards that are expiring? You can get your expiring suite upgrades extended and get points for expiring awards.

Park Hyatt St Kitts suite

This morning, I spoke with my MHC (My Hyatt Concierge) following up on an email I sent last week. During that conversation, I asked about some expiring suite upgrade awards (SUAs).

I was stoked to learn that MHCs have been given authority to extend expiring SUAs. Some MHCs have been doing it as part of their limited autonomy such as giving a certain number of their Globalists gifts or arranging for free show tickets.

Now your MHC can extend your expiring suite upgrade awards even if they’ve already done some nice things for you earlier this year. All MHCs can extend expiring suite upgrade awards for Globalists.

And they can give points for expiring awards.

The exact number of points will vary because all requests are on a case-by-case basis.

Pro-tip: An MHC (My Hyatt Concierge) is not a Globalist benefit. It is part of the Milestone Rewards. You get assigned an MHC when you have stayed 60 nights or earned 100,000 base points a year.

If you earned Globalist through the reduced elite requirements or through a fast track or challenge, you will not get an MHC unless you stay 60 nights. If you’re close to the 60 night threshold, you may want to going for it.

Suite Upgrade Awards

If you have Suite Upgrade Awards (SUAs) expiring on December 31, 2021, you can get them extended for 6 months. Calling today gives them a new expiration date of June 23, 2022.

Pro-tip: If you want the longest extension, DO NOT call now. Wait until Dec 30. This way your suite upgrades awards expire on June 30, 2022.

Club Access Awards

World of Hyatt (WOH) has never extended or given points for expiring Club Access Awards (CAAs).

However, this year MHCs have been given the authority to give 500 to 3,000 points per expiring CAA on December 31, 2021.

I was given 3,000 points per expiring Club Access Award. Because I had four expiring at the end of the month, I got 12,000 points.

Pro-tip: Whether you get 500 or 3,000 points per expiring Club Access Award will depend on your MHC and you.

Free Night Awards

I did not ask about free night awards because I plan to use the ones I have that are expiring.

These could be treated as suite upgrade awards and you’ll get a six month extension. Or you could get points.

How To Get Suite Extensions & Points

Here’s how to get suite extensions and points for expiring awards.

You can call or email your My Hyatt Concierge. If you don’t have an MHC, you can reach out via the Twitter team or use the function in the World of Hyatt app.

Pro-tip: Please be patient because not only is this week the holiday week but they are getting slammed with calls and emails.

Conclusion

You can get your Suite Upgrade Awards extended and get points for expiring awards. This only applies to awards expiring December 31, 2021.

Suite Upgrade Awards will get extended for 6 months. To get the longest use, wait to contact your MHC on December 30, 2021.

You can get points for expiring Club Access Awards. This has never been offered before and may be a one time event.

MHCs can give you 500 or 3,000 points per expiring CAA. This is done on a case by case basis. Some Globalists like myself will get 3,000 points, while others will get 500 points per expiring award.

You might be able to get your expiring free night awards extended or get points. I didn’t try because I plan on using mine before yearend.

Are you going to get your suite upgrades extended or get points for expiring free night awards?

I’m a Discoverist. Turned down by chat and phone bc I’m it’s a Chase certificate. Feels like I was penalized for having a relationship with Chase. Not how I’d word that rejection. I’ll try twitter for giggles.

Hi Mike,

I think no points or extension for Chase nights was standard across the board. Those nights have a 1 year expiration while the ones you earn from Milestone awards only have a 6 month expiration. What was your Twitter result?

Do you think people who are not Globalist (I'm explorist) have a chance of getting comparable treatment? I also have an expiring free night and an expiring club access award that I won't be able to use.

@Debra Schroeder, I reached out to them via chat. They wouldn't give my anything for my free night from 2019 (which was previously extended to Dec 31 2021 due to the pandemic). But for my free night from 2020, they gave me 10,000 points.

Hi Chris,

It doesn't hurt to call or use Twitter to ask. Let me know if they extend or give you points.
