Today is the last day to get a 100% bonus when you buy IHG points by March 16, 2021.
Does it make sense to stock up on points when you may not travel soon? Usually no, even when there’s a good sale on points.
But, if you need IHG points, here’s why you should consider buying hotel points.
Should You Buy IHG Points
Whether you should buy IHG points depends on how and when you’ll use your points.
You can save a lot of money buying points if you travel during school breaks, summer, and the holidays or if you stay in expensive hotels.
IHG points cost 1.35 cents per point when there isn’t a sale. During this offer, you can buy IHG points for 0.5 cents per point.
Points are sold in increments of 1,000. You have to buy at least 11,000 points to get the 100% bonus.
Each year you can buy a maximum of 150,000 points. If you bought 150,000 points, you’d earn 150,000 bonus points for a total of 300,000 points for $1500.
Overwater bungalow? Yes, please. Bora Bora is one of the top 10 places to visit.
A night in an Emerald Overwater Villa at the InterContinental Hotels: Bora Bora Resort Thalasso Spa costs $1,000, usually much more. Or you can pay 70,000 points.
You can buy 35,000 points and get 35,000 bonus points for $350. A savings of $650!

How to Buy Points
- Use the IHG buy points link.
- Enter your information.
- Choose how many points you want to buy.
- Pay with your credit card.
What Card to Use
When purchasing hotel points, here’s what card to use.
Use whatever card you need to meet the minimum spending requirements to earn your bonus.
Because buying points doesn’t code as a travel purchase, it doesn’t make sense to pay with cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or Chase Sapphire Reserve® Card. Because you won’t earn a travel category bonus.
If you have the IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card or the IHG One Rewards Traveler Credit Card, both offer a 20% discount when you buy points. But you can’t combine it with discounts. 😢
You could earn 3x points buying IHG points with your Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card. Because you earn 3x points on the first $150,000 spent on travel and select business categories.
Consider using a card that earns perks for spending such as the World of Hyatt credit card. You earn 2 elite qualifying nights for every $5,000 you spend. You also earn a free Category 1 to 4 night after spending $15,000 a year.
Conclusion
You can get a 100% bonus on IHG points when you buy points by March 16, 2021.
The bonus kicks in when you buy a minimum of 11,000 points. You can buy up to 150,000 points a calendar year.
Points normally cost 1.35 cents per point but during this promotion, you’ll only pay 0.5 cents per point.
Buying points make sense when you travel during peak times like school break, summer, and the holidays. And when you stay in expensive hotels. Because it’s cheaper to use points than pay cash. And when you can buy points for cheap, it could be worth it.
Make sure to use the right card when you buy points. Because the purchase doesn’t code as travel, use a card you have to meet minimum spending on.
Or pay with your Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card to earn 3X points on the first $150,000 spent on travel and select business categories. You can also use your World of Hyatt card to earn elite nights and a free night.
