The World of Hyatt added 56 additional SLH hotels, for a total of 300 SLH hotels, where you can earn and use your Hyatt points.

With these new hotels, it gives you more options and places to stay especially in cities where there aren’t any Hyatt branded hotels such as Lake Como, the French Alps, Morroco, Martinique, Anguilla, and San Sebastian.

Earn and Use Hyatt Points

You earn 5X Hyatt points at SLH hotels. If you have the World of Hyatt credit card, you’ll earn an additional 4X points. Elite members earn additional bonus points based on their status: Discoverist earn 10%, Explorist earn 20%, and Globalist earn 30%.

All qualifying nights at SLH hotels count towards earning elite status.

You can redeem points at SLH hotels for free stays. The exact number of points is based on the category each SLH hotel per the World of Hyatt award chart.

Member Benefits

One of the nice things about staying at an SLH hotel, in addition to staying for free when you use points :), is that you get lots of perks without elite status.

You don’t have to be a Globalist to get free upgrades, free breakfast, and other benefits. Nor have your Globalist friend book you a Guest of Honor rate.

Because when staying at SLH hotels all World of Hyatt members get

  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Complimentary continental breakfast for two guests every day
  • Free room upgrade
  • Early check-in
  • Late check-out

Get 3,000 Points Per Stay at SLH Hotels

In celebration of adding 56 more SLH hotels, Hyatt introduced a new promotion: SLH 3K.

You get 3,000 points for every paid stay at participating SLH hotels through March 2, 2020.

Eligible rates include those booked through the Hyatt website, calling Hyatt, or through a travel agent. Rooms booked through an online travel agency (OTA) like Expedia don’t qualify for this promo.

To receive the bonus points you have to register by January 31, 2020.

Pro-tip: Free night awards will NOT count as a paid stay in the SLH 3K promotion. Normally they count as a stay but for this promotion they will not count.

This means you can’t use your free night awards: Category 1 to 4 from the World of Hyatt card, Category 1 to 4 from the brand explorer awards and milestones, and Category 1 to 7 from earning Globalist status.

Point stays also will not count.

How to Maximize This Offer

Because free night and point stays don’t count to earn the 3,000 bonus points per stay, here’s how to maximize this offer.

You can hack this offer by staying at different hotels.

Consecutive nights only count as one stay. This means multiple back to back nights stays at the same hotel will only earn 3,000 points.

You can earn 3,000 points per night by booking each night at a different SLH hotel. Yeah, it could be a pain but might be worth it depending on if there are SLH hotels near each other and if the cash rate isn’t that expensive.

Use Points

You can use points and still maximize this offer.

I’m sure you’re thinking, “What? Didn’t you say we have to pay cash and can’t use points?”

Yep, but there’s a trick or loophole.

Book the first night on a cash rate and the following nights using points.

This way you earn the 3,000 points for your stay and elite night credit for all nights while only paying a little cash.

Pro-tip: This only works for consecutive night stays.

Summary of the Fine Print

To earn bonus points in the SLH 3K offer you have to:

  • Be a World of Hyatt member
  • Register for the promotion by January 31, 2020
  • Pay cash for your SLH stay
  • Bonus points will post 2 to 3 weeks after your stay

Conclusion

World of Hyatt added 56 more SLH hotels where you can earn and redeem Hyatt points. You can earn 3,000 points for each stay at SLH hotels through March 2, 2020.

Registration is required and only cash stays qualify. So you can’t use your free night awards.

But you can hack this offer by using different hotels and points.

Chase Sapphire Preferred

The Chase Sapphire Preferred is the best card for beginning travel hackers. It is the first card you should get to start traveling for free because the welcome offer is 60,000 points (after spending $4,000 in the first three months).

My favorite perks about this card are earning 2X points on travel and dining, no foreign transaction fees, and transferring points to 13 airline and hotel partners like Hyatt, United, and Southwest.
