Earn 2X Points on Southwest

Share with a friend

There’s still time. You can earn 2X points on Southwest flights for the rest of the summer and into Fall.

You’ll earn 2X Rapid Rewards points on all flights (one-way and roundtrip) through September 12, 2021.

To qualify for the Southwest double points promotion, you have to register for the offer before you fly. Check the offer tab in your Southwest account for the registration link.

Flights booked prior to the initial promotion date of July 19 won’t receive double points. So, it could be worth rebooking your flights, assuming prices are the same.

Points earned are in addition to the points you’ll earn from flying. Bonus points don’t qualify for the Southwest Companion Pass, A-List, or A-List Preferred status.

How Many Points Can You Earn

There’s no limit to how many points you can earn during the Southwest 2X Rapid Rewards promotion.

Here’s how many points you’ll earn based on your fare ticket:

  • Wanna Get Away fares earn 12 bonus points per dollar spent
  • Anytime fares earn 20 bonus points per dollar spent
  • Business Select fares earn 24 bonus points per dollar spent

How to Maximize This Offer

While you can’t combine the promotion with others, you can maximize this offer and earn additional Southwest points.

You’ll earn 4x points on Southwest purchases with your Southwest® Rapid Rewards® Performance Business Credit Card. With the card_name, you earn 3x points on Southwest purchases.

You’ll earn 2x points on Southwest purchases when you pay with your Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card, Southwest Rapid Rewards® Premier Credit Card, and Southwest Rapid Rewards® Plus Credit Card.

Pro-tip: If you have a new card that you need to make the minimum spending on to earn a bonus, you should pay with your new travel rewards card.

Summary of the Fine Print

  • Registration prior to travel required
  • Only flights booked during the promotional period (July 19, 2021 to September 12, 2021) qualify
  • One way flights will earn 2x points

Conclusion

You earn 2X points on Southwest flights through September 12, 2021.

Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is the best card to get started in the world of miles and points. It is the first card you should get to start traveling for free because the welcome offer is 60,000 points after spending $4,000 in the first three months.

My favorite perks about this card are earning 5X points on travel when booked through the Chase portal (2X if direct purchase), 3X points on dining, $50 yearly credit on hotels booked through the Chase portal, no foreign transaction fees, and transferring points to 13 airline and hotel partners like Hyatt, United, and Southwest.

Chase Freedom Unlimited®

The Chase Freedom Unlimited® is one of my favorite cards for earning cash back card and travel rewards. It offers a welcome offer of an additional 1.5% cash back on all your purchases up to $20,000 your first year.

My favorite perks about this card are earning 5% cash back on travel booked through the Chase Travel Portal, 3% cash back at drugstores and restaurants (including delivery and takeout), 1.5% cash back on all other purchases and no annual fee. When paired with cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve® Card or Ink Business Cash® Credit Card, you can use your points to travel for free.
