I’ve written before about the only time you should buy hotel points. Buying points can be a great deal during a sale especially when you can get 40 free hotel nights. With a simple travel hack, you can get extend that to 53 nights.
But should you buy IHG points for the 100% bonus? Keep reading to find out.

The latest promotion from IHG Rewards Club gives you a 100% bonus when you buy IHG points by June 8, 2019.
IHG offers the 100% bonus once a year so if you were thinking of buying points now could be a good time.
To get the bonus, you have to purchase 7,000 IHG points and you can purchase up to 100,000 points.
IHG points normally cost 1.3 cents per point but with the 100% bonus, you can buy points for half a cent (0.5 cents) per point!
How to Buy IHG Points
1. Use the IHG buy points link.
2. Sign into your account with your name, IHG number, and email.
3. Choose how many points you want to buy.
4. Pay with your credit card.
Buying IHG points doesn’t count as a travel purchase. So you won’t earn bonus points when paying with a travel rewards card like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card.
Pro-tip: But you can earn 3X points when paying for IHG points with your Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card on the first $150,000 spent on travel and select business categories.
If you have to meet minimum spending on a new travel rewards credit card, you should use that card.
The IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card 20% discount on purchased points doesn’t apply during the sale. 🙁
Should You Buy IHG Points With a 100% Bonus
Sale is a trigger word for me, especially when it comes to travel. It’s hard to resist.
Especially when you can buy IHG points for half a penny!
If you stay in expensive hotels, travel during peak times like summer or the holidays, need two or more hotel rooms, you can save a lot of money buying IHG points.

How to Get 40+ Free Hotel Nights
When you combine the 100% bonus promotion with IHG PointsBreaks where free award nights cost 5,000 points, you can stretch your vacation dollars and your vacation.
Buying 100,000 points during the sale gives you 200,000 points. At 5,000 points a night, that’s 40 nights! But you can maximize and travel hack it for even more nights!
Pro-tip: The IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card gives you the fourth night free on award stays of 4 nights or more.
Those 200,000 points combined with a PointsBreak award and the IHG card gets you 53 free nights!
