The quickest way to travel for free is to take advantage of big bonuses on travel rewards cards. It’s one of the easiest ways to travel more and spend less.

The four Southwest credit cards are offering a 60,000 point bonus. Update: The bonus on the personal cards is 50,000 points after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first three months of account opening and 60,000 points after spending $3,000 on purchases in the first three months of opening the business card.

This is a high bonus offered on the Southwest cards and usually seen at the end of the year. It’s exciting that Chase is rolling out the bonus at the start of summer. With Southwest’s flights to Hawaii, you might be able to sneak in one or two trips to the islands this summer!

Pro-tip: Southwest gives you two free checked bags. No more weighing your luggage, adjusting items in your carry-on, or worrying about finding overhead bin space. You can stroll on board with a personal item, plop down in a seat, and get ready for fun!

Need to get away?

Because the Southwest 60,000 points bonus counts towards earning the Southwest Companion Pass, once you earn it you can fly free for almost two years.

Even better, with this new offer, you earn the Companion Pass after you’ve completed your minimum spending!

With the Companion Pass, your companion flies for free with you on Southwest. Kinda like an emotional support person but with the vest and they get their own seat instead of having to sit at your feet or under the seat in front of you. Just kidding!

There’s no limit to how often you can use your Southwest Companion Pass. You can fly as often (every day, every weekend) or as little as you want, it’s your choice.

But there’s one catch: you have to earn 135,000 Southwest points in a year to earn your Companion Pass. But with the Southwest 30,000 points & Companion Pass bonus offer, you can earn that in a few minutes! This offer has ended. The new offer is 50,000 points after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first three months of account opening.

Pro-tip: Chase Ultimate Rewards points transferred from cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card do not count towards the Pass.

How to Earn a Southwest Companion Pass Fast

You can quickly earn a Companion Pass by getting a personal and business card.

When you get the Southwest Premier Business Credit Card and one of the personal cards, you’d earn 114,000 points. (60,000 points +3,000 points + 50,000 points + 1,000 points).

You’d almost earn your Southwest Companion Pass.

Pro-tip: Be sure to read our ultimate guide on earning Southwest points without flying.

Eligible for Southwest Cards

You are eligible to apply for Southwest cards if you don’t currently have a Southwest credit card and have not received a Southwest bonus within the last 24 months.

Pro-tip: These cards are subject to the Chase 5/24 rule. If you have opened 5 new credit cards in the last 24 months (aka 5/24), it could be hard to get approved.

Conclusion

All Southwest cards are offering up to a 60,000 points bonus through June 10, 2019. This is one of the highest bonuses offered on these cards. But the bonus point on the personal cards is now 50,000 points after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first three months of opening your account.

The bonus points count towards earning the Southwest Companion Pass. You can earn a Southwest Companion fast when you get a personal and a business card.

Remember that when you transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Southwest from cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred or the Ink Preferred they don’t count towards earning the Pass.
