Times Square on New Year’s Eve. An overwater villa in the South Pacific. Or 40 free hotel nights. Just a few of the things you do with the IHG points: get up to 100% bonus promotion.

There are only a few days left to take advantage of this deal.

I’ve written about the only time you should buy hotel points. Buying points to stock up isn’t recommended. But if you have an upcoming use for them you may want to look at this offer.

During a sale, buying points can be a great deal especially if you can travel hack your way to 53 free hotel nights.

Keep reading to find out if you should buy IHG points for up to an 100% bonus?

IHG Points: Get up to 100% Bonus

As with previous promotions, IHG Rewards Club is offering a mystery bonus offer when you buy IHG Points: get up to 100% bonus on points purchased by end of day December 30, 2019.

To get the bonus, you have to buy at least 7,000 IHG points and you can purchase up to 100,000 points. But some people have gotten targeted offers letting them buy up to 250,000 points.

I wasn’t that lucky. But I got an extra 10% discount. Maybe because I have the IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card?

IHG points normally cost 1.35 cents per point but with the 100% bonus, you can buy points for half a cent (0.5 cents) per point!

How to Buy IHG Points

1.  Use the IHG buy points link
2.  Log in to your account with your name, IHG number, and email
3.  Select the number of  points you want to buy
4.  Pay with your credit card

Buying IHG points do not count as a travel purchase. This means you won’t earn bonus points when paying with a travel rewards card like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and Chase Sapphire Reserve® Card.

Pro-tip: But you can earn 3X points if you buy IHG points using with your Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card on the first $150,000 spent on travel and select business categories.

Remember: If you have to meet minimum spending on a new travel rewards credit card, you should use that card.

Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is the best card to get started in the world of miles and points. It is the first card you should get to start traveling for free because the welcome offer is 60,000 points after spending $4,000 in the first three months.

My favorite perks about this card are earning 5X points on travel when booked through the Chase portal (2X if direct purchase), 3X points on dining, $50 yearly credit on hotels booked through the Chase portal, no foreign transaction fees, and transferring points to 13 airline and hotel partners like Hyatt, United, and Southwest.

Chase Freedom Unlimited®

The Chase Freedom Unlimited® is one of my favorite cards for earning cash back card and travel rewards. It offers a welcome offer of an additional 1.5% cash back on all your purchases up to $20,000 your first year.

My favorite perks about this card are earning 5% cash back on travel booked through the Chase Travel Portal, 3% cash back at drugstores and restaurants (including delivery and takeout), 1.5% cash back on all other purchases and no annual fee. When paired with cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve® Card or Ink Business Cash® Credit Card, you can use your points to travel for free.
