Southwest Cards Offering 85,000 Points

The fastest way to travel for free is through big bonuses on travel rewards cards. That’s why when high bonuses come around it’s time to act.

Normally this high of a bonus is offered towards the end of the year. Because you can get this bonus at the beginning of the year, you can fly free for two years!

Because the bonus from the Southwest credit cards count towards earning the Southwest Companion Pass.

Southwest Rapid Rewards® Premier Credit Card 85K Points

Bonus: 85,000 Southwest points. You can earn 85,000 points when you spend $3,000 on purchases during the first 3 months of opening your Southwest Rapid Rewards® Premier Credit Card.

Goodbye middle seat! Because you get 2 free EarlyBird Check-ins each year. This card earns tier qualifying points towards A-List and A-List preferred status. With A-List, you get an “A” boarding pass.

You earn 3X points for every $1 you spend on Southwest tickets, 2X points for every $1 spent on Rapid Rewards hotel and car rental partner purchases, rideshare, transit and commuting, cable, internet, phone, and certain streaming.

So a $49 ticket gets you 147 points plus the 221 points you earn from the ticket for a total of 368 points!

Southwest Business Cards 80,000 Points

In addition to personal credit cards, Southwest also offers business credit cards.

Southwest® Rapid Rewards® Performance Business Credit Card 80K Points

This card earns the most Southwest points on all purchases and comes with a ton of benefits!

Southwest Companion Pass With 2 Cards

Because the Southwest bonus counts towards earning the Southwest Companion Pass, once earned you can fly free for almost two years.

With the Southwest Companion Pass, you can bring someone with you for free on all your Southwest flights.

There is no limit to how many times you can use your Southwest Companion Pass. You can fly every day, every weekend, or a few times a year. You decide how often you want to use it.

You earn a Pass after flying 100 one-way flights or earning 135,000 Southwest points in a year.

But with this new offer, you’ll earn the Southwest Companion Pass with only one card!

Pro-tip: Chase Ultimate Rewards points transferred from cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card do not count towards the Pass.

How to Earn a Southwest Companion Pass Fast

You can earn a Southwest Companion Pass fast if you get a personal and business card.

The bonus on all three personal cards is 30,000 points and the Southwest Companion Pass. Update: The credit card offer in this post is no longer available. The new offer is 85,000 points after spending $3,000 on purchases in the first three months of account opening.

The Southwest Performance Business Credit Card has an 80,000 points offer after spending $5,000 on purchases within the first 3 months.

The Southwest Premier Business Credit Card has a 60,000 point offer after spending $3,000 on purchases within 3 months of account opening.

You could get one of the personal cards Southwest Priority Credit Card, Southwest Premier Credit Card, or the Southwest Plus Credit Card, and the Southwest Performance Business Credit Card. When you complete the spending requirement, you’d earn 136,000 points. (50,000 points + 1,000 points + 80,000 points + 5,000 points).

You’d earn your Southwest Companion Pass! But the offer on the personal cards include the Pass!

With the Southwest Premier Business Credit Card, you’d earn 175,000 points.

Are You Eligible for Southwest Cards

You are eligible to apply for Southwest cards if you don’t currently have a Southwest credit card and have not received a Southwest bonus within the last 24 months.

Pro-tip: These cards are subject to the Chase 5/24 rule. If you have opened 5 new credit cards in the last 24 months (aka 5/24), it could be hard to get approved.

And you get up to $300 in statement credits on travel booked through the Chase portal your first year.
 
My favorite perks about this card are earning 5X points on travel when booked through the Chase portal (2X if direct purchase), 3X points on dining, $50 yearly credit on hotels booked through the Chase portal, no foreign transaction fees, and transferring points to 13 airline and hotel partners like Hyatt, United, and Southwest.
