Get a 30% Bonus on Hyatt Points

Share with a friend

You can get a 30% bonus on Hyatt points when you buy points by February 23, 2021.

I’ve written about when you should buy hotel points and when you should buy airline miles.

Generally, buying airline or hotel points to stockpile and build your stash isn’t recommended. But if you planning where to travel in 2021 and have an upcoming use for your hotel points it could be worth considering the 30% bonus on World of Hyatt points.

During a sale, buying points can be a great deal especially if you can combine it with current offers like the double elite qualifying nights Bonus Journeys promotion.

Or if you want to earn Globalist status in 9 nights.

How to Buy Hyatt Points

1.  Use the Hyatt buy points link
2.  Log in to your account
3.  Choose the number of  points you want to buy
4.  Pay with your credit card

To get the 30% bonus you have to buy at least 5,000 points. You can buy 55,000 World of Hyatt points a year.

Pro-tip: Buying doesn’t count towards World of Hyatt elite status like Globalist and it does not count towards your lifetime base points.

Buying Hyatt points doesn’t count as a travel purchase. So you won’t earn bonus points when paying with a travel rewards card like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and Chase Sapphire Reserve® Card.

Pro-tip: But you’ll earn 3X points when you buy Hyatt points with your Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card. Because you earn 3x points on the first $150,000 spent on travel and select business categories.

If you have to meet minimum spending on a new travel rewards credit card, you should use that card before any other card.

Should You Buy Hyatt Points?

There are times when you should buy hotel points. Buying points during a sale can be a great deal if the math works out.

Meet Minimum Spending

Buying hotel points is an easy way to meet minimum spending on new credit cards that you can’t use with Plastiq.

Get 30% Off Hotel Stays

Normally each Hyatt point costs 2.4 cents. With this offer, you can buy points for 1.85 cents per point. Assuming you buy 55,000 points, the maximum amount of points, with the 30% bonus, you’ll pay $1,320 for 71,500 points.

Free nights at World of Hyatt hotels start at 5,000 points a night.

With 71,500 Hyatt points, you can get 14 free nights at the Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta in Indonesia, 5 nights at the Andaz Vienna Am Belvedere, or 2 nights at the Park Hyatt Maldives.

Saves Money During Peak Times

Buying points is worth it if you travel during the summer, holidays, and other peak times when rooms are expensive.

Paying $1,320 for 71,500 points gets you a weekend at a Hyatt allinclusive like Hyatt Ziva Cancun, Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana, or Ventana Big Sur.

At Ventana Big Sur nights can easily cost $1,300 a night!

Earn Elite Status

You can earn elite status faster when you buy points during a sale. You can use points to book hotel rooms because award nights count towards elite status.

Pro-tip: Combine free award nights booked on points with the free nights for spending with your World of Hyatt credit card.

Conclusion

You can get a 30% bonus on Hyatt points when you buy World of Hyatt points by February 23, 2021.

Buying points is easy: use this link and log into your World of Hyatt account, choose how many points you want to buy, and enter your credit card information. Remember to use any cards you need to meet the minimum spending on. If you don’t have any new credit cards, use your Ink Preferred Credit Card and earn 3X points on the first $150,000 spent on travel and select business categories.

To get the bonus, you have to buy at least 5,000 points and the most points you can buy a year is 55,000 points.

You can save a lot of money buying points if you travel during the summer, holidays, or if you stay at expensive hotels. Because it’s cheaper to buy points and redeem them for free hotel rooms instead of paying cash.

Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is the best card to get started in the world of miles and points. It is the first card you should get to start traveling for free because the welcome offer is 60,000 points after spending $4,000 in the first three months.

My favorite perks about this card are earning 5X points on travel when booked through the Chase portal (2X if direct purchase), 3X points on dining, $50 yearly credit on hotels booked through the Chase portal, no foreign transaction fees, and transferring points to 13 airline and hotel partners like Hyatt, United, and Southwest.

Chase Freedom Unlimited®

The Chase Freedom Unlimited® is one of my favorite cards for earning cash back card and travel rewards. It offers a welcome offer of an additional 1.5% cash back on all your purchases up to $20,000 your first year.

My favorite perks about this card are earning 5% cash back on travel booked through the Chase Travel Portal, 3% cash back at drugstores and restaurants (including delivery and takeout), 1.5% cash back on all other purchases and no annual fee. When paired with cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve® Card or Ink Business Cash® Credit Card, you can use your points to travel for free.
